it never ceases to amaze me what people throw away......

and lucky for me i have absolutely no dignity or self respect left when it comes to picking through
someone's garbage pile.....
case in point:
is this called a bonnet table?  whatever its called, it was really cool.
it is in pretty bad shape.  the veneer is peeling off in a couple of places and is missing in a couple more.
nothing a little carpenter's glue won't fix though....
it has leather insets on the base and the top
and these awesome lions head knobs on the side and brass covers on the feet.
it's going to take some work but i think it will be awesome when its done.
this rocker was in someone else's trash pile.  i'm not sure i will be able to fix this because the seat is totally trashed out and will take some major skills to replace.  i have an idea of what to do though so i will just have to see if my delusions of grandeur will come to fruition......

these frames will get a shot of spray paint and go into the garage sale we are having in a couple of weeks.
i'm thinking chalkboard for this one.....
i also ended up with some perfectly good dishes from this trash pile as well, that will be sold at the garage sale.

this is the latest piece of furniture that i have been working on for my friend lisa.  i think its pecan wood. (or maybe its a pecan finish, i dunno)
it was a craigslist find from earlier this year.  the woman posting it didn't have a price on it so i emailed her and and she wanted $125.00.  i told her thank you very much but i had a $40.00 limit.  she emailed back and told me i could have it for $40....so a great lesson to everyone out there who buys off of craigslist....it never hurts to ask for a lower price....
this dresser is heavy, really heavy.  they just don't make them like this anymore.
and i love the hardware.....why can't they reproduce some of these old designs?  they are fabulous!!

the dresser will go in her bedroom and was painted to match these twin tables....

the hardware was painted in dark bronze as well....
this is the next piece for her.
its pretty trashed out and has been sitting in her garage with hardware and other assorted junk stored in it.
its in bad shape too.....lots of peeling veneer at the bottom.
its going to be painted to match this happy little dresser.

i do love a challenge.....

we have austen's first baseball tournament this weekend so i will be busy relaxing at the ball field.
i hope everyone has a great weekend.

I love trash! Well, the kind I can make treasure out of! People throw away wonderful things sometimes. I once found a Ballard Designs desk in someone's trash. It was still in the catalog for $299. Find of the century!

Come check out my new blog. I am a new mini-stockist of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Southern California and I am SO excited about it!

What great finds! I found a similar piece to the bonnet table just sitting on the streets of NY. I used it as a night table for years. I, too, am often amazed by the stuff people throw away. Great job fixing up those pieces!
