kitchen cabinets stage one......done

the last two days i have been working very hard to get my kitchen redo into gear.
yesterday, the place was a mess....
it kinda sorta looked like this
one half started cabinet paint job....
the whole house was a mess because i worked all day on this project and then austen had baseball in the evening at a baseball field 45 minutes away.
the garage was paint central
don had started painting the cabinet doors with a brush...icky brush strokes
my new love is a foam roller..
painting was a breeze and it went way faster than painting with a brush.
this morning,  the kitchen looked like this.......
ugh....don't judge me!!!  this is why i don't have glass doors on any of my cabinets....lol
this afternoon, stage one is done
i still have to put up the moulding because we added wood between the cabinet top and the crown moulding to give the builders grade cabinets a little height and elegance....
you can see the gap here a little better....
the trim is in the garage drying right now....
spray painted with dark gray and will be dry brushed with the same paint as the cabinets.

nice and bright!!!
and i am loving the change in the space.
i am sure that you noticed that i have 3 different colors of appliances.
someday, i will find my killer craigslist deal on a new stainless steel set of appliances that actually match...but for now, they are all working and in good condition so i can live with the variety.
let's call it "eclectic" shall we?
this is what it looked like two days ago....
and what it looked like one month ago
quite a change, i think......
i still need to paint the bottom cabinets, but i can live with this until i get the energy to finish.
right now, i need to clean my house....

It's your call...you live there, but
I kind of like the base cabinets left black... Love the backsplash tile!

Oooh, it really opened up the kitchen, didn't it! It looks so much bigger! I've been thinking about painting my cabinets white, too...I just haven't gotten up the guts! I need to paint my table, too! You are just so darn inspiring! :)

that made so much difference! I love it when people start getting handy and do all these fabulous makeovers at home themselves! I wish I could undertake such a big task next time! Gotta start collecting all those tools to start with!

What kind of paint did you wind up using? Did you sand and prime and use a some sort of poly? I have been wanting to do this but it's just such a big project. And by the way my cabinets are messier. Thanks for sharing.

are you sure you want to paint the bottom cabinets? I like the black and it relates to the black console (with the pet dishes below). I am loving how the backsplash relates to the chair color and the blue ball canning jars on the console. black white blue and red are a great color story!

Yes, quite a change! Wow, I wouldn't begin such a project as I would probably never finish. Great job!! – g

The transformation is awesome. I love it and you did a fantastic job. Very brave. :) I wish I could paint mine, but my husband thinks we shouldn't mess with them. :( We used to have 3 different colored appliances before we broke down and bought a SS stove and DW. My husband said we were "Multicultural". lol

I love the how everything turned out! I can see I'm not the only one posing this question, but have you considered leaving the bottom cabinets black? I really like the way your pictures turned out and I think the black/white combo adds a nice balance to the room. Whatever you end up doing, in sure it'll look amazing!

What a huge change already! I'm in the process of de-blackifying my house too—white paint might be the best invention ever.

oh I see you are painting the cabs...but you didn't say with what paint. I added you to my blog list so I can keep up with your blog! Keep painting the cabs is my opinion, let the black go swiftly into the night!

I am getting ready to paint my cabinets white, too. It is nice to see the change before I get started...definitely better. Thanks for the inspiration.

I like the bottom cabinets painted black. Especially with the black microwave, and the dark table alongside the wall there to the right (right of the kitchen table in the picture)

It looks fabulous! You've done so much work and I love the lighter look of the white. I think gray base cabinets would look amazing. Kristi of Addicted 2 Decorating just redid a kitchen with a similar color palette ~ take a look. I also love how you painted the breakfast room chairs a lighter color. Makes the room so much crisper. Can't wait to see how it all turns out. Stay tuned for my final reveal (if it ever gets done, lol). xo Jenna, SAS Interiors
