painted lady...

i loved this end table when i first saw it, sitting alone at the goodwill store with a tag for 

$15.00 stuck to the top of it.  

i love the style and the cute flower details on the sides....

what i didn't like was the two toned color and the yellowed and aged areas on the drawers.

i could do without the speckling on the paint job too!

my friend lisa came over one day and saw this table and just had to have it.  she was looking for a nightstand for her spare bedroom which was decorated in greens and creams.  

i found a can of oops paint at the habitat for humanity re-store for a dollar (score!!) a while back and showed it to her.....perfect!!

i decided to stain the top of the end table in a dark stain called jacobean by minwax.  

i saw some scratches showing through the stain on the top so i re-sanded and added another coat of stain.

 not much detail showing through here.....

but with the glazing.....

it's lovely.....

the knobs are from hobby lobby and i love that they mimic the carved detail in the piece.

i love the stained top.

and the dainty feet...

lisa got a sneak peek yesterday (without the glazing).  

i think she's gonna love it.....

it's still waiting the hardware for the bottom drawer to dry.  i'm using the pull that came on the piece and i sprayed it with an oil rubbed bronze finish.

and here is the finished reveal...

tomorrow i'm off to pick up an antique dresser from a craigslist seller that i am also redoing for lisa.

hopefully it will look as good in person as it did in the pictures.  it is a great deal.  i'll share more on that later......

but right now, this is what the view out of my window is.....

ten on tuesday....

after reading suzanne's blog i was inspired to post ten random pictures every tuesday...

new, old lamps.....

we have always had a mish-mash of decor in our house.  we aren't the kind of people that would buy a whole room full of furniture and all of the matching accessories that go with the room all at the same time.  it was more like a couch here, a chair there, a picture for the wall... you know what i mean....

so most of our decor is a little eclectic and whimsical.  now that i have become ahem... addicted to thrift stores and making over junk, decor has become even more mish-mash.  

but that's okay, because i am kind of fickle and my tastes change constantly.

so i needed new lamps for my buffet because we don't have a matching set of lamps in the whole house.

my budget is still quite small so off to goodwill i went and came home with two of 

these

 for this price...they were a nice shape but dirty, i think they were smokers because that brown stuff looks like tar.....ugh!

i painted one heirloom white but don thought that we had too much of that color in the house (i'm not sure why on earth he would think something like that) 

so i painted them with krylon catalina mist spray paint.  i sprayed the bottom of the lamp
with silver paint.

i wanted drum shades but they were too expensive. these shades were found at target on clearance for 3.24 each from 12.99.  and i was only charged for one shade because they were together and she didn't notice when she rang them up.  i didn't notice that i didn't get charged for both until i was home.  i felt bad but not bad enough to go 20 minutes back to the store..  i know, i know, i'm going to hell...

i'm not sure how i like them with the color of the buffet but i think they kind of look like jadite....and i like that.....gotta love goodwill.....and target clearance!

what is the appeal?  the shape? the different styles? the color?

for me, first and foremost, it has to be the color.  
i just adore it.....

maybe it's the variations of the color

and the variations of the style...

like these crown brand jars.  i think they are canadian.

the aqua crown jars are a really cool find.  i love how the bottom of this jar is formed.

i probably should have taken a picture of how they looked when i got them.  it took me an hour to scrub them all up. but the effort was worth it.

  the man that i got them from on craigslist told me that his dad had a barn full of these.  he had packed them up after his dad died and is selling them now.  i had to pick through quite a few that were stored in his storage unit to find these treasures. and at such a great price...

i love the imperfections and bubbles in the glass

and the glass lids.  

i love to use them for decorating around the house, too.  

they look so nice in my new laundry room redo

but my very favorite thing about these jars???

using them as vases....
